Antonio Del Fiol, an immigrant born
in 1884, in the village of Vigonovo, located
in the Veneto region of northern Italy, arrived in Brazil in 1888, where
he grew a family. He started up his business in Tatui, with a grocery store
at Onze de Agosto st. in 1926.
In
1931 he opened up a bar / restaurant at Praça da Matriz, and in
1936 he founded the Hotel Del Fiol. Due to Mr. Fiol's death in 1939, the
management of the hotel was passed on to his wife Cezira and his son Oswaldo.
Oswaldo, together with his wife Yolanda,
managed the hotel for 56 years, gathering an enormous circle of friends
among the guests, as they considered making friends more important than
running the business itself.
At the hotel bar, before the arrival
of television, the guests and the local elite used to get together every
night – liberal professionals, authorities and politicians.
Out of these discussions and conversations
was born the Rotary Club -1947 and also the Conservatório
Dramático e Musical de Tatuí -1954 (Conservatory of
Music and Performing Arts).
The Hotel, after successive extensions, has been in the last few years through a total renovation, offering now 60 housing units, among apartments and suites, access to Internet (broadband connection) and a wide meeting room, equipped with modern multimedia equipment.
Since Mr. Oswaldo's death, in 1995, his son Raul and his granddaughter Eliza remain as owners and partners; Fábio Rogério Vieira is the current manager.
